What are cold sores and what causes them?

Cold sores, also known as fever blisters, are fluid-filled blisters that are usually on or around the lips.  They are caused by a herpes virus infection, most often the herpes simplex 1 virus.  Once a person is infected with the virus, it remains in a nerve near the cheekbone.  It may remain inactive, or a  recurrence can be triggered by various factors, including stress, sun exposure, cold weather, illness, fever, and hormonal changes.  Cold sores are highly contagious.

What are canker sores and what causes them?

Canker sores, (also known as aphthous ulcers), are painful ulcerations that occur inside the mouth or on the gums. They can be caused by stress, physical trauma such as an abrasion in the mouth, or diet, such as acidic foods.  Canker sores are not contagious.

What are the  ingredients in DISSA-PEER?

The active ingredient is L-Lysine 325 mg, and the inactive ingredients are Zinc Gluconate 20 mg, and Thiamine HCL (Vitamin B-1) 25 mg.

        What is the recommended dosage?

If you suffer frequently from mouth ulcers, DISSA-PEER may be taken to help with your immune system, with a recommended dose of one tablet per day.  For those who suffer occasionally, the recommended dosage is one tablet, three times daily, beginning with the onset of symptoms such as itching, burning, tingling, etc.  Children ages 2-12 should take one-half tablet per dose.

If stress is a cause of your mouth ulcers, and you know you will be facing a stressful situation such as a career-change, wedding, or other important event, begin taking one tablet daily in advance of the event to help prevent an onset.
